Two recent tech interviews

In the past month, I’ve been talking to two organizations who both think it’s a good idea to have people take non-proctored assessments while telling the candidates that they’re recording audio and video of you. I resisted at first since this is against anything I've ever known in the past 20 some years of my career. After further thought, I decided let's try it and see what this is about. This was the strangest, most inhumane interview process that I’ve ever experienced and I believe as an industry we can do better.

I asked one of the companies about obtaining a copy of my recording afterwards and it turns out they don’t really record candidates, but just take screenshots randomly throughout the assessment. So now I found out that they’re lying to candidates and being dishonest from the start of the business relationship. I do not wish to start any relationship like this - business or personal.

Has AI replaced ethics?

Look, I understand having thousands of people apply for the same job but there are other methods of hiring. Needless to say, it helped me establish that I will not be taking any assessments for an interview going forward. I find it to be a time waste and hiring companies - Do better!!!

I’m not getting into the gaps I saw in the second companies hiring processes because that’s a longer story for another day.
